When we were catching up with Damon Newpher recently, we started to dive into what makes Belize such a fantastic fishing destination, the care that helps maintain a thriving ecosystem. But the reason Newpher returns to Ambergris Caye again and again is so much more than that.
“You know how you find that one place when you think of relaxation and paradise, but it offers a lot of things to do when you’re there?” asks Newpher. “That’s what Ambergris Caye is for us.”
“We just love it not only for the people, the culture, the Belizeans – the food is out of this world,” explains Newpher. “You get all that and it’s completely ensconced.”
Ambergris Caye is such an important part of his life now that he has even been taking his now two-year-old daughter, Aviena, out paddle boarding and fishing with him since before she could walk. This year they paddle boarded out to Secret Beach together, a local Ambergris Caye hotspot.
“Diving, snorkeling, fishing, Mayan Ruin tours — it’s one of those places where you can do nothing and be absolutely happy, or you can keep yourself busy.”
